• MCBs

Q1. What Are the Types of MCBs?

Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) are classified into different types based on their tripping characteristics. They include:

- Type B MCB: 3 to 5 times the full load current

- Type C MCB: 5 to 10 times the full load current

- Type D MCB: 10 to 20 times the full load current

- Type K MCB: 8 to 12 times the full load current

- Type Z MCB: 2 to 3 times the full load current

Q2. What Are the Most Widely Used MCB Electricals?

- Type B MCB - Legrand RX3 Range : Type B is the most sensitive type of MCB Electrical, designed for domestic and low voltage commercial settings where any current surges are likely to be small, like lighting circuits, home wirings, etc.

- Type C MCB - Legrand DX3 Range : C types trip at currents between five and ten times their rated load. They find use in commercial or industrial applications where there could be chances of higher values of short circuit currents in the circuit. Good examples include smaller electric motors, fans, fluorescent lighting, small transformers, pilot devices, control circuits, coils, etc.

- Type D MCB - Legrand DX3 Range : D type Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) are the least sensitive type, only activating when current surges between ten and twenty times the recommended maximum. Examples include welding equipment, X-ray machines, UPS systems, large motors, uninterruptible power supply units, industrial welding equipment, etc.

Q4. What Are the Types of MCBs Based on the Number of Poles?

Types of MCB Electricals based on the number of poles include:

- Single Pole (SP) MCB : A single-pole circuit breaker has one switch, protecting a single phase of the circuit.

- Single Pole with Neutral (SPN) MCB : The double pole circuit breaker has two switches, protecting the single phase. It also has a neutral switch.

- Double Pole (DP) MCB : The double pole circuit breaker has two switches, protecting two-phase and neutral

- Triple Pole (TP) MCB : A three-pole circuit breaker has three switches and protects the three phases.

- Three Poles with a Neutral (TPN) MCB : Three poles and a neutral circuit breaker protect the three phases of the circuit. It also has a neutral switch.

- Four Poles (FP) MCB : A four-pole Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) contains four switches, three phases, and a neutral. But unlike the three poles with neutral, the four poles protect all the phases and the neutral. They are used in places with an unbalanced circuit.

Q5.What Is the Warranty of Legrand’s Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs)?

Legrand warrants to the original purchaser that the products (excluding any third party products purchased through Legrand, for which no warranties are made) will be free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal use and regular service, and preventative maintenance for 18 months from the date of shipment or 12 months from the date of installation whichever is earlier.
